Massage Careers – Cruise Ships

You have to be really careful with cruise ships. They often work massage therapists very, very hard with long hours and very few breaks. I read a terrible story in a massage magazine where therapists were actually required to do eleven 50 minute massages, 5 ½ days a week. In the article, the two therapists did not even unpack and were made to do two massages as soon as they set foot on the ship.

The next week was terrible, they were overworked and were only given 10 minutes in between massages and to change the sheets and set up the room. They were also required to sell spa products during this time. Luckily, because the manager rushed them into massages as soon as they got on the ship, they forgot to have them sign the contract. These therapists quit as soon as they got to the first port.

I am sure there are advantages to working on a cruise ship. If this is your dream, you should not give up. There probably are several cruise ships that treat massage therapists very well. Just be very cautious and review the contract carefully.
